TFHN - Daniel Ronel, Oct. 14
Seattle, WA • Just an honest man, trying to make an honest living. But because of his biased opinion, his job may be in jeopardy.
Such is life for sports writer Daniel Ronel.
Just this past autumn, the TFHN sports writer and Seattle Blazers owner/GM was appointed by TFHN to create the league Power Rankings. The objective was to create discussion as well as give a different perspective. However, all of his publications have been met with lots of criticism from all around the world, and as a result TFHN has taken a hit. Yet, his most recent publication may have sealed his fate.
He has openly ridiculed all other owners, especially those at the bottom of the standings. He has gone above and beyond to over-praise his team, almost making the rest of the world sick of his "sharing of his beliefs". It's almost impossible to not show a little bit of bias towards the team you own, but Ronel takes it way too far. The newest publication was the final straw. Despite Seattle losing to the Red Deer Blades, Ronel pins his loss on a lack of activeness, claiming that the team "was clearly better and should have demolished this week." He also failed to mention that his last-placed Milwaukee Blizzards benched more points than he did, which easily would have improved his standings.
Perhaps the only saving grace is in all of his entries, he completely highlights his bias, generally making light of it. Nevertheless, this is no excuse. he is shaming the world of media and journalism. He is taking advantage of his power at TFHN to excuse his team's poor play while giving them hope for the future, and thus keeping his attendance numbers and merchandise sales from dropping.
He will more than likely pay greatly for his wrong-doings, and the top brass at TFHN give us reason to believe such. Editor-in-chief Mason Jay told us, "I'm a little embarrassed on behalf of TFHN. I'm also embarrassed for Ronel. He is only ridiculing himself and giving his team a negative reputation. I truly believe that what he is doing will not pan out how he expects; rather than maintaining the trust and hope of the Seattle fans, he is directing unnecessary negative attention towards his fanbase. As we know, fans love to hate other fans, and this will not bode well for the Blazers faithful. He is put on probation and the board will vote on whether he shall be suspended from Power Ranking activity."
Ronel's future is uncertain, but there's no denying that it won't be pretty, unless he can escape from the hot water he's gotten into. Oh, and the fact that I'm just making this all up.
